The Endings Of Black Mirror: Bandersnatch Explained

It's all about the meta. Netflix, and any digital form of entertainment, is the thing that is programming and controlling us all. Great video. Finally, someone who gets it on that deeper psychological level. ^_^

Netflix way of adding more revenue to their bottom line until the real challenge comes of enchancing this medium such as augmented reality, smart A.I speech interaction etc. This film is just a taste and an experiment of what is to come. Dont be surprised if you are paying your monthly sub plus $4.99 each for "interactive movies". Just my 2 cents. Its 2019 and they are just experimenting with type of filming? This could have been years ago. Its drip feed media.

Your explanation makes so much sense. Honestly I don't know why so many people have complained about how the choices make no difference to Stefan's fate because the whole idea behind that is to show how we have as little control over Stefan's fate as he does. The whole idea of bandersnatch is that it creates the illusion of free will but it's actually controlling him (and us)

Vor 4 Tage

This movie (and the whole idea behind Black Mirror itself, which is a paradox) shows the atheist type of world view. If there's no god, everything and anything don't matter. There's no propose to it.

Vor 4 Tage
Willis
Willis

black mirror has nothing to do with atheism, the whole premise is a deconstruction on where humanity is headed and where it is now, using technology as a vehicle to explore those themes, its about us, not god. although granted, bandersnatch is about the lack of free will, which contradicts what people believe about god

This episode just is not for me. There's no way I would have him fight a woman, I didnt like having to pick either one of them to jump, I didnt want him to do acid, there was no way I was going to pick him to kill his dad. The only thing I liked was picking was the music (loved both choices, yes I was an 80's kid) and the cereal. Sigh .... I guess Im just a person who doesnt like to see anyone go crazy and I know Im a person who loves a happy ending ! I couldnt even watch till the end, I fell asleep .... Oh well !

Vor 7 Tage

thats the point though, we dont really have a say in his fate, its the illusion of choice, the choices we make are as meaningless as the scripted choices in the game he is making, i didn't really like the choices either

First time I played through I said "no" both times when she asked if wanted to speak about his mother. Eventually you're forced to talk about it and that was probably the most horrifying thing because I knew it would be traumatic to talk about it the entire time I was playing after that but when it's revealed how his mother died I was just sat in a ball on my couch crying my freaking eyes out because he was 5 years old and he's blamed himself for the death of his mother ever since

So a lot of people already pointed out that the game Nosedive(forgot how they spelt it in the show), was a black mirror self-reference but also a foreshadow to Colin jumping off the building and dying. But couldn't MetlHedd be another reference to how Colin Dies? He gets bashed in the head by a blunt object, sure it's a trophy and not made of metal, but both his games that get any real spotlight foreshadow him dying, which is cool cause he's somewhat aware of other timelines like the ones where he dies. Both games have inspiration from him dying in some awful way. Even though the details are slightly different for both.

what if the glpyh is the other way around 2 leading to 1 no matter what you choose you end up at one. edit:Explained that horribly say theres 2 choice 1 and 2, 1 leads to 3, 2 leads to 3, no matter what you choose you end up at 3, being a horrible ending or just a bad ending, there are no "good" endings, the set not "good", just not horrible.

If you make no decision for Stefan, you see all the timelines and you still don't participate being just an observer. Maybe this should be a life lesson. Actionless action - live life as an observer and see all the possible outcomes of your actions. This is a great lesson split in different smaller lessons like - you need to kill your family in order to achieve greatness or take acid and change your past or life is just construct of your mind and everything is possible. Time is just a series of different frames that create different timelines that have no beginning and no end. You can choose to follow any timeline at any time or you can observe them all with your imagination. There are different demons that control and are controlled in the same matter you can control and are controlled. No one created this Construct, cause it has not beginning and no end. Just a big flowing of energy in different colors and forms, patterns, numbers. Watch it closely and you can "hear the numbers" playing. Take acid and don't throw yourself from the balcony. Just enjoy the Universe, then do something useful with your life.

Totally a black mirror episode. The entire series is based on technology and the illusion of its control over your life. Each episodes gets more advanced in tech as the tech gains more control of your life. The question is, what or who is controlling you? The answer is, your brain (the what) and not, technology. Your brain is very powerful technology and it can control or be controlled.

When you say it doesn't seem like an episode of Black Mirror because there is no futuristic technology, I say you're missing the point. The episode itself is the futuristic technology and it's like we get to be the stars of our own personal episode of Black Mirror because, most likely, no one will see the exact same sequence of scenes as any other person, unless they watch it together of course.

No one mentioning the matrix parallels colin is like morpheus he knows the world he lives in is a game like when he says "you can smell the numbers" he means the code of the game and he rants about different time lines (diffetent endings from different chooses in the game) and actions not mattering cause he is being controlled and even if he dies he can just respwan. Then he gives stefan the drug and stefan starts realizing and experiencing this as well, stefan is neo him taking the drug is like the red pill he is being woken up to the illegitimacy of the world he lives in by colin.

Great video, but for all the praise Black Mirror gets with this episode, it's really nothing more than a live action Telltale Game episode. A _great_ episode still, but hardly original. And it's also not that deep, either. You are born, likely go to school, grow up, likely get a job, may or may not meet a romantic partner, and die. That's almost everyone in the world. The stuff that happens between is minimal-to-meaningless on the big picture, but only has "meaning" on the personal level. We are still limited by our choices in where we're born, who we're born to, and what time we're born in. So yeah, life is meaningless, and yet, it's also a blank slate to do whatever you can get away with until you eventually reach "the end." Again, nothing new or original.

My interpretation of some references to Lewis Carroll's "Alice" and "Through the Looking Glass." In Alice, she sees the white rabbit and follows him (Stefan and his rabbit toy). Alice follows him down the rabbit hole (Colin refers to Stefan being in the hole) Alice is faced with many doors down a long hallway with doors that are locked. She sees a key on a table that looks like it would open the door that has a beautiful garden behind it (the book Stefan has "Look Door, Get Key." This book tells you how to create a choose-your-own-adventure game. Could the garden represent the perfect ending of the movie?) She sees a bottle that says drink me (tea that is shown throughout?), causing her to shrink and leave the key on the table. She cant get through the door. And the first chapter closes in the book (I need to go back and see the ending after Stefan eating those cakes as a child to see if that correlates somehow). She meets the Caterpillar who is smoking a hookah and gives advice/information to Alice for her journey (Colin (caterpillar?) offers Stefan the blunt and Stefan takes LSD in his  apartment then Colin proceeds to give him info regarding free will and decisions... trippy scene like in Alice) Colin also reminds me of the Cheshire Cat. In this apartment scene, Colin sits back and has the grin on his face... (kinda like the Chesire Cat?) The Cheshire Cat tells Alice how to find the March Hare... Colin tells Stefan various things about PAC and many of these things, like the government and drugs, allude to choices Stefan can make down the storyline which influences the endings. Many of which revolve around the rabbit (Dad takes rabbit, Stefan finds rabbit, Stefan cant find rabbit). The I dunno if this is too farfetched but that's what I saw. One of the timelines shows that Stefan eats tarts that have been spiked. Can these be referring to the Queen of Hearts tarts? Speaking of Queen of Hearts. She famously says "Off with their heads!" Does this refer to the deaths of Jerome Davis's wife and Stefan's dad? I can go on and on down this rabbit hole but I don't want to end up like Jerome F. Davis or Stefan at the moment so I'll continue tomorrow

Hey, nice analysis but massive correction, and one you might be excited to hear, 15 million merits was NOT the first episode of Black Mirror, so if you havent seen episode one youre in for a treat as that remains one of my favourite episodes to this day. Episode one (titled, The National Anthem) is a hostage story involving the UK prime minister and a member of the royal family - its still by far one of the most twisted Black Mirror episodes to date and pretty hard to watch tbh.
